Water supply to Formosa group’s plant stable: gov’t

TAIPEI–The Water Resources Agency on Wednesday denied media reports that said Formosa Plastics Group’s sixth naphtha cracking complex in southern Taiwan’s Yunlin County will face a water shortage after a dam was damaged by the torrential rain.

Agency spokeswoman Tien Chiao-ling admitted part of the dike surrounding the dam in Nantou County’s Jiji Township that supplies water to the naphtha cracking facility was washed away by the heavy rain a day earlier.

However, she assured that there would be no problem in the facility’s water supply because the agency has activated the backup supply system.
