TAIPEI–TSMC chairman and CEO Morris Chang, Asustek Computer Chairman Jonney Shih and six other Taiwanese tech entrepreneurs were honored as academicians by the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) on Wednesday.

It was the first time that the ITRI, a government-funded scientific research institute, has named academicians.

Institute Chairman Tsai Ching-yen said the purpose of the new initiative was to bring together the collective wisdom and experience of top people in the high-tech field and get their advice on national science policy, industrial development and the institute itself.
