TAIPEI — Taiwanese chip designer MediaTek Inc. announced yesterday a global strategic partnership with Twitter Inc. on an integrated mobile platform that will enable users in emerging markets to access Twitter services more easily via affordable mobile devices.
With the partnership, MediaTek will preload the Twitter application in its MRE middleware as a default feature for its mobile handsets, the Hsinchu-based company said in a statement.
MRE (MAUI Runtime Environment) is a phone application development platform created by Mediatek. As a software platform, MRE can download and run small apps for playing games, sending messages and sharing photos.
The move will help mobile manufacturers and brands to reduce the time to market and to develop product differentiation for their consumers, the statement said.
