HTC world’s 24th most innovative firm: survey

TAIPEI–Smartphone maker HTC Corp. was ranked 24th in the Most Innovative Companies 2012 survey published by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), making it the only Taiwanese company that had made it to the world’s top 50.

HTC did not make it to the top 50 in 2011, but saw its standing improve 23 notches to 24th from 2010, according to the U.S.-based management consulting firm, which has conducted annual innovation surveys since 2004.

Apple Inc. maintained its number one position in 2012, followed by Google Inc. and South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co., the BCG said in its latest report released Thursday.

“In a turbulent economic environment, innovation is an important driver of the organic growth necessary to generate sustained, above-average returns,” the consulting firm said in its report.

Each year, the firm conducts surveys of more than 1,500 senior executives, asking for their views of their own innovation plans as well as their opinions of other companies’ innovation track records, the BCG said.

In November 2012, HTC was named the most innovative company in Taiwan for the second straight year, according to the results of a survey conducted by the Industrial Development Bureau.
