TAIPEI–China has been widening the scope of its cyberattacks on Taiwan, which poses a serious threat to the country’s security, National Security Bureau (NSB) Director Tsai Der-sheng warned yesterday.
In the past, China’s computer hacking was aimed mainly at data theft but the focus is shifting to infrastructure sabotage, which could jeopardize Taiwan’s transportation and financial networks, Tsai said during a legislative hearing.
Meanwhile, the cyber theft attempts are expanding from military and political data to technological and corporate data, he said.
The NSB has been providing relevant facts to the information security offices of the National Security Council and the Executive Yuan on a regular basis, Tsai said.
President Ma Ying-jeou is also paying great attention to the issue and has hosted several meetings to discuss possible government measures to deal with the problem, the national security chief added.
