Oscar-winning Dutchman poised for Taiwan return

BRUSSELS–Dutch animation director Erik-Jan de Boer, who won an Oscar earlier this year for his work on “Life of Pi,” has expressed a desire to visit Taiwan again, a place he said has friendly people and beautiful landscape.

In a two-minute video, de Boer delivered a greeting to a “Life of Pi” appreciation event hosted by Taiwan’s representative office to the Netherlands in the Hague Friday, and said he had the chance to tour Taiwan thanks to his participation in the production of the award-winning film directed by Taiwan-born director Ang Lee.

De Boer, who was in Los Angeles, was unable to attend the event in person.

During his stay in Taiwan, he toured Taipei, as well as the northeast and east coasts, Tainan and Kenting in Southern Taiwan, he said, adding that he wants to visit the island again in the future.
