Worldwide LCD panel market expected to stabilize in 2013

TAIPEI — The worldwide liquid crystal display (LCD) panel market will become more balanced this year after seeing a shortage last year, market research and consulting firm NPD DisplaySearch said Thursday.

David Hsieh, vice president of the Greater China market at DisplaySearch, said 2012 is the first year that the LCD panel market registered a single-digit capacity growth of 7 percent, much lower than the growth in demand of 14 percent.

With the LCD panel market maturing, the capacity growth is expected to reach 4 percent in 2013 and the growth in demand touch 3 percent, Hsieh noted.

Moreover, growth in global demand is likely to rise to 10 percent next year, driven by demand for high-resolution panels used in high-end mobile devices and large TV panels, he said.
