TAIPEI–Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. released a statement yesterday, saying that it has sold a portion of its patent portfolio to Google Inc., as part of its business strategy.
The patents sold to the American search giant are related to head mounted display technology commonly used in aviation and tactical/ground displays, engineering and scientific design applications, and gaming and video devices, as well as training and simulation tools, Hon Hai said in the statement.
The deal was facilitated by patent service firm MiiCs and Partners, Hon Hai noted, declining to give any further details due to a mutual non-disclosure agreement.
The statement said the company will continue to strengthen and develop its intellectual property. It has applied for over 55,000 patents worldwide, over 5,000 of which have been granted.
