New Audi R8 variants arrive in the Taiwanese market

The China Post News Staff

Audi has recently introduced their flagship two-door R8 Coupe and R8 Spyder convertible into the Taiwanese market at NT$10.83 million and NT$11.52 million respectively, according to the Audi Taiwan subsidiary. Following the introduction of the Audi S sports models last month, Audi Taiwan recently announced that two road car models, the Audi R8 Coupe and the R8 Spyder have been available from Friday, Sept. 6. The body shells of the Audi R8 coupe and the R8 Spyder are both built with Audi Space Frame (ASF) technology, Taiwan Audi said. ASF frame technology makes use of aluminum throughout the body of the car and helps maintain the low, overall weight of the R8 GT. ASF also helps increase vehicle rigidity for improved handling and performance. Full LED headlights, daytime running lights and rear lights have been made standard specification of the variant Audi R8, including the Audi R8 Coupe and the Audi R8 Spyder. Audi Taiwan, a 100-percent locally owned subsidiary of the German brand, recently claimed that it targets to sell 5,000 vehicles in 2013.

Audi Taiwan forecasts total sales of luxury imports to Taiwan to be about 50,000 units in 2013, the same as in 2012, stressing that the new Audi S sport models will help further expand Audi’s market share by competing with Mercedes-Benz AMG and BMW M models. Audi Taiwan became an Audi agent in 2009, having targeted annual sales of less than 1,000 units, initially expecting sales of about 4,000 units in 2012, when Audi Taiwan enjoyed an annual sales increase of about 10 percent, the highest among all European luxury importers.
