TAIPEI, Taiwan — A strong cold air mass will continue to influence the island until Sunday, Jan. 19, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast yesterday, noting that today’s lowest temperature should hit around 12 degrees Celsius in southern Taiwan and 10 degrees in Central and Northern Taiwan. The CWB said that, as the temperature will vary a lot from day to night, it recommends people dress warmer against the cold weather.

Due to the influence of the cold air mass, low temperatures will envelope the entire island, the CWB said, noting that the weather today will be cold and wet and there is a chance of snow in the mountains. The bureau also pointed out that the wind force will increase to Force 7 or 8, with the strongest winds, Force 10, expected to sweep across northern and northeastern Taiwan as well as the southern part of the Taiwan Strait. Noting that the cold air mass will bring rain showers to the northern and eastern side of the island and mountainous areas at central and southern Taiwan, the CWB reminds people to bring umbrellas.
