Sporting Kansas City defeat LA Galaxy and extend unbeaten run

KANSAS CITY, Kansas — Benny Feilhaber and Lawrence Olum scored either side of halftime as Sporting Kansas City defeated Los Angeles Galaxy 2-1 to extend its unbeaten streak to six games and end the Galaxy’s eight-game unbeaten streak in Major League Soccer on Saturday.

Feilhaber opened the scoring in the 11th minute, drilling a free kick from just outside the box into the upper left corner past Galaxy goalkeeper Jaime Penedo.

Sporting made it 2-0 in the 60th minute after Graham Zusi’s cross was headed by Jacob Peterson — which was blocked by Penedo — but the rebound came straight to Olum who headed it past a sprawled Penedo.

Robbie Keane cut the Galaxy deficit in the 79th minute with his 10th goal of the season off a corner.

At Sandy, Utah, Joao Plata scored in the 81st minute to give Real Salt Lake a 1-1 draw against Vancouver after the Whitecaps took a 1-0 lead in the 73rd minute when Darren Mattocks converted a penalty.

Houston’s Dominic Oduro scored in stoppage time before the end of the first half as Toronto FC drew 2-2 with the Houston Dynamo.

Will Bruin opened the scoring for Houston in the 11th minute when he collected a poor back-pass from Toronto’s Bradley Orr and scored into an open net.

At Frisco, Texas, Andres Escobar and Tesho Akindele both scored as Dallas dealt New England its seventh-consecutive loss, 2-0, while Sebastien Le Toux scored from a penalty in added time to give the Philadelphia Union a 1-1 draw with the Chicago Fire.

Bernardo Anor scored twice as the Columbus Crew ended a seven-game winless streak with a 2-1 victory over the Montreal Impact, and Steven Lenhart scored his first goal of the season in the 85th minute of the San Jose Earthquakes’ 1-1 draw with the New York Red Bulls.
