TAIPEI, Taiwan — The reception for Korean National Day was held at the Grand Hyatt Taipei last night, which kick-starts Korea Week, a series of events to celebrate this special occasion. Last night’s reception banquet was attended by diplomats from a dozen countries as well as Taiwan government officials. Among them were Control Yuan President Chang Po-ya (張博雅) and Chien Fu (錢復), former Control Yuan president and foreign affairs minister. South Korea’s representative to Taiwan, Cho Baek-sang (趙百相), stressed in his opening address that there have been growing exchanges between Taiwan and South Korea over the years. Cho said that during his five-month tenure in the position, he has discovered that Taiwan is an industrialized nation with very balanced development and that Taiwanese people are unique in having such great empathy for others.

Bilateral trade topped US$30 billion in 2013, while tourist exchanges between the two countries have also been growing and are expected to reach 1 million in 2014, Cho said.
