Taiwan Taoyuan Int’l Airport improves in passenger survey

TAIPEI — The Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport has moved up one place to be named Asia’s fifth-best airport in an online survey that asked passengers their views on comfort, convenience, cleanliness and customer services during long layovers.

The survey by www.sleepinginairports.net took into account both the poll and travelers’ messages left on its website. The airport was praised for its zzz Factor and the creature comforts provided for overnight transits.

Relative to other airports on this list, Taipei Taoyuan is considered to be laid back, relaxed and accommodating, the website wrote.

In addition to its modernity, the review said, what makes the Taoyuan airport truly unique are the variety of themed waiting lounges.

For instance, if passengers board from waiting lounge C8, they will have a quick chance to experience a taste of the Golden Horse Awards as they will walk down a red carpet, sit on theater-style chairs and browse Taiwanese movie mementos.

One passenger also left a very positive review of the airport, writing that the people are friendly, the staff is helpful and the themed boarding gates (such as EVA Air’s Hello Kitty gate) are fun and beautiful.

Taiwan’s main international airport ranked behind Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur, in that order, and came in ahead of Tokyo Haneda, Osaka Kansai, Tokyo Narita, New Delhi and Bangkok on the Asian top 10 list.

Taoyuan International Airport Co. said the survey is a boost to the country’s image, adding that passenger volume in 2014 is likely to surpass 34 million.
