TAIPEI — Online sales of V Air, a low-cost subsidiary of Taiwan’s TransAsia Airways, broke down Wednesday following the introduction of a promotion offering 10,000 NT$520 (US$16.7) tickets for Taipei-Bangkok flights.
Issuing a statement of apology, the airline said it had fixed the system and would resume online ticket sales at 10 a.m. the following day.
Wednesday’s promotion was part of the new budget airline’s celebration of the upcoming launch of its services.
V Air, established in November 2013, acquired a certificate of aeronautical operational control (AOC) Nov. 27, allowing it to provide commercial flight services. Its inaugural flight is set to take off from Taipei to Bangkok Dec. 17.
The 10,000 cheap tickets are being offered for one-way flights from Taipei to Bangkok, Bangkok to Taipei, Taipei to Chiang Mai and Chiang Mai to Taipei.
