TAIPEI–Property company Ruentex Development Co. is scheduled to open a new CITYLINK shopping mall connected to Nangang station Friday.
The new shopping center built on top of the station offering Taipei Metro and nationwide train access will be the second, following Ruentex’s first CITYLINK mall at Songshan station, which opened in 2013.
The two malls take advantage of the transportation hubs at Songshan and Nangang, which the developer hopes will attract more costumers.
The Songshan mall has the added benefit of being near a bus hub, while the Nangang one will be linked to the high speed rail system in the future.
CITYLINK Nangang boasts a total floor space of 16,000 ping (52,800 square meters) and can accommodate 150 shops. Ruentex said annual revenue at the new mall is expected to range between NT$2 billion (US$6.36 million) and NT$2.5 billion.
It will focus on cuisine, with restaurants and food accounting for an estimated 40 percent of revenue, the company said.
Ruentex is also planning to introduce an Ambassador Theatres cinema in the second quarter of next year.
Meanwhile, the Songshan CITYLINK has benefited from the launch of the Songshan Line (No. 3) of the Taipei metro system in mid-October.
As the developer remains upbeat that convenient transportation links will bring in a greater number of customers, it is planning to open a third CITYLINK shopping mall on the top of Neihu Station on the metro’s Wenhu Line (No. 1), and another on at Sanchong Station of Zhonghe Xinlu Line (No. 4) in the future.
