TAIPEI–Taiwanese light-emitting diode (LED) makers are fast losing their market shares to Chinese vendors, with a Chinese company recently overtaking a Taiwanese producer as the second largest LED company in Greater China.
China’s MLS Co. posted revenues of NT$12.9 billion (US$409.33 million) in the first three quarters of this year, according to the Taiwan-based Photonics Industry and Technology Development Association (PIDA).
This means that it has surpassed Taiwan’s Lite-On Technology Corp. as the second largest LED company in Greater China, and is closing in to the top spot currently held by Taiwan’s Everlight Electronics Co., PIDA said.
Much has changed in five years.
In 2009, only three Chinese LED vendors made it to the top 15 companies in Greater China, and only one X Foshan NationStar Optoelectronics Co. X made it to the top 10, according to PIDA.
