TAIPEI–The Taiwan unit of Yahoo Inc. predicted Monday that its mobile traffic on e-commerce business will exceed PC traffic in 2015 thanks to the Web portal’s ��Mobile First�� strategy that has been pushed by CEO Marissa Mayer since 2012.
The company’s mobile transactions accounted for 30 percent of its total e-commerce revenues in the first quarter of this year, with mobile traffic exceeding 40 percent of the overall traffic on e-commerce platforms, according to Jacky Wang, vice president of the e-commerce group at Yahoo Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Mobile traffic on Yahoo Taiwan’s Super Mall, one of its three major e-commerce platforms, took a 57 percent share of the total in the first quarter, surpassing PC traffic for the first time, he said.
��We will further integrate the Yahoo apps of Shopping Center, Super Mall and Auction to continue providing better experiences for consumers,�� Wang said.
He forecast that mobile traffic on Yahoo Taiwan’s e-commerce platforms will exceed PC traffic this year, without giving a timetable or specific targets. Wang’s projection came at a time when the number of users of a feature in Yahoo Taiwan’s Super Mall app using QR codes or bar codes, which allow shoppers to scan and buy goods with their smartphones, increased 250 percent sequentially in the first quarter of the year.
Products that can be searched with the QR bar code-based shopping feature also grew nearly 20-fold from 20,000 in September 2014 to more than 400,000 in March this year, with more than 600 stores having signed up for the service, Yahoo Taiwan said.
