Minister of economics leaves for Philippines for APEC conference


TAIPEI, Taiwan — Economics Minister John Deng (�H����) departed for the Philippines Thursday to attend the annual Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) meeting of Ministers Responsible for Trade.

The meeting is scheduled for May 22-24 on the resort island of Boracay.

Deng said he hopes to use the opportunity to conduct exchanges with his counterparts from APEC member economies.

The minister said he will also hold discussions with Japan on issues related to Taiwan’s recent decision to tighten controls on Japanese food products.
