TAIPEI–A luxury hotel under the Courtyard by Marriott brand officially opened in Taipei’s Nangang District on Tuesday, making it the first international hotel brand to operate a property in the district bordering New Taipei City in the east.
The Courtyard by Marriott Taipei is located on the 7th-30th floors of the Nangang Station, which serves high-speed rail and conventional trains and the Taipei MRT line.
The hotel is the fifth hotel affiliated with the Taiwan-based Leofoo Tourism Group in Taiwan, and the first one being operated under license from Marriott International, Inc.
Having invested NT$1 billion (US$30.44 million) in the Nangang hotel, Leofoo expressed optimism over the hotel’s prospects and expected it to boost the group’s turnover.
The company’s short-term goals are to reach an occupancy rate of 60 to 70 percent by the first quarter of 2016 and break even in 2018. The target price per room will be NT$6,000 to NT$6,500 in the first year of operations, Leofoo said.
The modern hotel will have 465 rooms, two restaurants and conference facilities.
