Nation ranks 3rd in Asian cities of the future report

TAIPEI–Taipei is listed third overall out of 163 cities in the Asia-Pacific Cities of the Future 2015-2016 rankings compiled by fDi Intelligence, a unit of the Financial Times, representing a jump from sixth place in the last rankings two years ago.

According to fDi Intelligence, Taipei enjoys a robust economy and its economic potential is second, behind only Tokyo, while its business friendliness is ranked fourth.

Taiwan’s capital, however, topped the rankings of mid-sized Asia-Pacific cities this year, and it performed the best in the economic potential and business friendliness categories when compared to similar- sized cities.

Citing Taipei’s high level of education yet low cost of labor, the city is attractive to creative talent, with 24,280 patents registered between 2010 and 2014 — the third-highest among all the cities on the list.
