TAIPEI–Taipei has made it on lists compiled by two different U.S.-based travel guides as a recommended travel destination in 2016.
Fodor’s, one of the world’s largest publisher of English language travel and tourism information, included Taipei on its “Go List” of 25 destinations to visit in 2016.
The travel guide highlights Taipei as a modern Asian megalopolis stepping into the spotlight as the World Design Capital in 2016.
“Design hounds should time their visit to coincide with the WDC International Design House Exhibition (Oct. 13-30), when the city will be turned into a huge exhibition ground,” Fodor’s wrote.
It described Taiwan’s capital as “a buzzing, highly cosmopolitan city where giant modern skyscrapers tower over ancient temples, peaceful parks are juxtaposed with clamoring and chaotic markets, and cutting-edge hotels and nightlife spots pack in the glitz and glamour.”
Also on the Fodor’s “Go List” are Utah, U.S. national parks, Philadelphia, Palm Springs in California, Cuba, Haiti, Guadeloupe, Lithuania, Bavaria in Germany, Normandy in France, Nepal, the Philippines, Guam, Adelaide in Australia, Abu Dhabi and Ecuador.
Taipei also made Travel + Leisure’s list of the “Best Places to Travel in 2016,” ranking 19th on the list of 50 destinations.
The U.S.-based travel magazine also highlighted Taipei’s status as next year’s World Design Capital and the scheduled opening of the Taipei Performing Arts Centre, described as “an arresting piece of contemporary architecture.”
The list’s top 10 consists of Bocas del Toro, Panama; Guadalajara, Mexico; Richmond, Virginia; Lille, France; Iran; Lanai, Hawaii; Hangzhou, China; Douro Valley, Portugal; Frankfurt, Germany; and Asbury Park, New Jersey.
