TAIPEI — The southern branch of the National Palace Museum (NPM) in Chiayi County, which launched its soft opening Dec. 28, said Thursday that it will hold a series of celebratory activities on New Year’s Day.
To start the ball rolling, a tea appreciation event will be held 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, with students from Tai Ho Elementary School in the county’s Meishan township serving the famous Alishan tea to visitors, NPM Director Feng Ming-chu said.
A New Year concert will begin at 5 p.m., featuring four performances by the Taiwanese percussion troupe U-Theatre, according to the museum.
The performances will be followed by a live broadcast of the Vienna Philharmonic New Year’s Concert 2016, the museum said.
The museum said it has 2,000 free calendars to present to visitors who stay for the full New Year’s Day celebrations.
