400 foreign journalists land for the elections: MOFA


TAIPEI–Around 400 journalists from foreign media outlets have arrived in Taiwan to cover the Jan. 16 presidential and legislative elections, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Tuesday.

The ministry said it is expecting more to come in the next few days.

In terms of the countries from which they come, Japan, the United States and Singapore have shown the most interest in the elections, with 162 journalists from Japan, 55 from the U.S. and 29 from Singapore.

In terms of individual media, the largest group is Japan’s NHK with 51 journalists, followed by 22 journalists from Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun and 10 from Al Jazeera Television.
