Taiwan-based gaming and digital entertainment company Gamania has become the sole distributor of South Korean online game giant NCSoft’s “Lineage M” — a mobile adaptation of its hit PC game “Lineage” — for Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. The mobile version is scheduled for release in South Korea in the first half of this year and will become available in the Taiwan market as early as the end of this year.
Gamania became the publisher of the PC version locally in 2000, since when the game has accumulated more than 9 million subscribers. “Lineage” is one of the longest-living games in Taiwan.
Lineage, a medieval fantasy massively multiplayer online role-playing game first released in 1998, is one of the most successful online games ever, bringing fame globally for its developer NCSoft and locally for Gamania.
Market watchers are keeping a close eye on whether the legendary franchise’s mobile version can repeat this success. “Lineage M” is aimed at “bringing the exact same kind of fun that users experienced in the PC series to the mobile platform,” according to NCSoft. Earlier this month, the developer released the second trailer for the game, showing classic maps from the PC version that will be featured in the new version as well as the battles fought to control them. The mobile spinoff is expected to also feature an open world centered around the war-torn world of Aden.
