Nominees for the Hito Music Awards 2017 revealed

TAIPEI, Taiwan — The nominees for the 2017 Hito Music Awards, hosted by local pop music radio station Hit Fm, were revealed on Monday.

During a star-studded launch event for the annual music award show, Taiwanese aboriginal singer Jia Jia (家家), pop singer Bii (畢書盡), and local rock band Lion (獅子合唱團) announced the nominees for the most popular new artist, most popular male singer, most popular female singer, most popular group, and most popular band categories.

The nominees for the most popular new artist are Erika (劉艾利), Elvis Tian (田亞霍), DJ Didlong (李英宏), GEMMA (吳映潔), Goo (鼓鼓), and Rose Liu (劉明湘).

Nominated for the most popular male singer and most popular female singer are Bii, Kenji Wu (吳克群), Li Ronghao (李榮浩), Jay Chou (周杰倫), JJ Lin (林俊傑), and Yoga Lin (林宥嘉), and Della (丁噹), Cyndi Wang (王心凌), Hebe (田馥甄), Angela Chang (張韶涵), Rainie Yang (楊丞琳), and Waa Wei (魏如萱), respectively.

A mix of new and old ensembles are vying for most popular group and most popular bands. The roster includes SpeXial, G.U.T.S. (兄弟本色), Nan Quan Mama (南拳媽媽), Grasshopper (草蜢), Power Station (動力火車), and MURMURSHOW (慢慢說) for most popular group, and The Last Day of Summer 831 (八三夭), Mayday(五月天), Lion, and Fire EX. (滅火器).

The winners of the awards will be determined by fans’ votes, and online voting began Monday at 3 p.m. Fans can vote once every day for each category from March 10 to March 23. The Award Show During the launch ceremony, Hit Fm’s Chairman Liao Wan-chih (廖婉池) noted that the award show was made for artists, to encourage them in their craft.

Many of the companies behind this year’s award show, including major funder Mercedes-Benz and co-sponsors Omusic and Sony Mobile Xperia, commented on the importance of the show in the Chinese-language music industry.

“(We will) continue to bring exceptional musicians to Taiwan so that all of you … can experience world-class musical artistry,” Eckart Mayer, president of Mercedes-Benz Taiwan, said about the show. This marks the sixth time the German automobile company has sponsored the show.

The 2017 Hito Music Awards show will take place at the Taipei Arena on June 4 at 6 p.m. and has a “Black & White” dress code.
