TAIPEI, Taiwan — A warm, humid day is forecast for Sunday, the Central Weather Bureau said, with afternoon showers in mountainous areas.

High temperatures around Taiwan will hover around 28 degrees Celsius, while temperatures could hit highs of over 30 degrees in Central and Southern Taiwan. Cooler temperatures will be seen in the evening.

A tropical depression located to the east of the Philippines will continue to head in a west-northwest direction. The bureau has said it will continue to observe the tropical depression’s strength and whether it would affect Taiwan.

Citing figures from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, meteorologist Daniel Wu said on his Facebook page that the chances of the tropical depression affecting Taiwan were quite low.

The EPA’s Taiwan Air Quality Monitoring Network (http://taqm.epa.gov.tw/taqm/en/default.aspx) showed that, with the exception of Hualien and Taitung Counties in Eastern Taiwan and offshore Penghu County, the air quality index (AQI) is at orange, or third on a six-level scale from good to hazardous.
