Shu Qi refutes reports of marriage trouble

TAIPEI, Taiwan — Taiwanese actress Shu Qi (舒淇) has dismissed reports of her breakup with husband Stephen Fung (馮德倫).

The Apple Daily newspaper in Hong Kong reported Friday that she had separated from Fung, a Hong Kong director, less than a year after their surprise wedding.

When contacted by Apple Daily’s Taiwan outfit, Shu said she would not respond to “a newspaper that only creates rumors.”

Shu’s agent told the press that the star’s marriage was absolutely fine.

Shu Qi, one of the highest-paid actresses in mainland China, first met Fung on the set in 1997.

In what was feted as a love story for the ages, the two were close friends for two decades before tying the knot last September.

The Hong Kong arm of Apple Daily reported that after less than a year of marriage, the two were now living apart and had drawn up divorce papers.

The report said that they “encountered friction when living together” because of differences in their habits.

A source said Fung was “always working” and had a short temper, and that Shu Qi was disappointed with married life and had started the divorce proceedings.

The pair is due to hit the media circuit together to promote their action film “The Adventurers” (俠盜聯盟), which hits theaters in August.
