SOUTHPORT, England — World number one golfer Dustin Johnson will begin his Open Championship bid on Thursday paired with Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy and South Africa’s Charles Schwartzel.
The tee times released by organizers Monday have Johnson beginning his campaign with his playing partners at Royal Birkdale at 2.48 p.m. (1348 GMT).
Action begins early with 1998 Open champion Mark O’Meara teeing off at 6.35 am alongside England’s Chris Wood and fellow American Ryan Moore.
Masters champion Sergio Garcia of Spain is paired with 2015 winner Zach Johnson of the US and Australian Jason Day while US Open champion Brooks Koepka partners Japan’s Hideki Matsuyama and England’s Tommy Fleetwood.
Title-holder Henrik Stenson of Sweden is joined by American Jordan Spieth and Kim Si Woo of South Korea.
