TAIPEI, Taiwan — An elderly man fell to his death from a Taipei City Government building earlier today, landing on top of an unlucky pedestrian who survived the impact.

Taipei police received a report at 10 a.m. that a man had leaped from the city government’s Songde office building in Xinyi District.

His body struck a 47-year-old coach bus driver who had been walking across a parking lot, who was conscious when an ambulance arrived to send him to the hospital.

Police said that the man who jumped, a New Taipei City resident in his 70s, had been receiving in-patient care at Taipei City Hospital (市立聯合醫院).

He showed no signs of life upon arrival at the hospital and could not be resuscitated, police said.
