TAIPEI (CNA) – Two South Koreans are tied for the lead at 7-under-par after the second round of the Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship tournament on Friday.
Jenny Shin, who was tied for fifth with a 2-under 70 after the first round on Thursday, shot a brilliant 5-under 67 in difficult conditions on Friday to claim a share of the lead with compatriot Ji Eun-hee.
The two Koreans have a one-shot lead over young American Brittany Altomare and a two-shot lead over Australian Su Oh, whose 6-under-66 on Friday was the best round of the day.
Under drizzling skies, former world No. 1 and still fan favorite Yani Tseng (曾雅妮) of Taiwan, finished the day in a seven-way tie for 28th at 1-over after an even par round.
Taiwanese Candie Kung (龔怡萍) was also at 1-over after two rounds after shooting a 2-over-74.
Tsai Pei-ying (蔡佩穎), who spends much of her time playing professionally in Japan, was the best positioned Taiwanese at the end of Friday, tied with two others in 14th at 1-under after firing a 3-under 69.
Meanwhile, Taiwanese Lee Min (李旻), who was tied for fifth after the first round, dropped to 49th after carding a 6-over-78.
The tournament, with total prize money of US$2.2 million this year, features several of the world’s top female players, including So Yeon Ryu of South Korea and young emerging star Brooke Henderson of Canada.
It is being played at the Miramar Golf and Country Club in New Taipei’s Linkou District. •
