TAIPEI (CNA) – An estimated 545,000 tourists visited Kinmen County (金門縣) in the first nine months of the year, an increase of 51 percent from the same period last year, data from the county government showed Wednesday.

According to the statistics, the increase of 185,227 visitors in the nine-month period this year comprised 96,325 Taiwan nationals, 77,622 Chinese tourists, and 11,280 international visitors.

“Thanks to the integrated and creative marketing strategies adopted by Kinmen County Magistrate Chen Fu-hai (陳福海), the tourism industry in the offshore county appears to have steady growth this year,” said Kinmen County Tourism Department Director General Chen Mei-ling (陳美齡).

The total of 545,000 tourists to Kinmen in the period January to September represented growth of 51 percent from the 359,773 recorded in the same period last year, the data showed.

In collaboration with the Kinmen tourism department, the county government has developed attractions such as themed travel tours, music festivals, and mountain hiking, for domestic and foreign visitors, Chen said.
