TAIPEI Nov. 19 (CNA) – Due to the arrival of northeasterly winds and a rain system from the east of Taiwan, the weather in the northern part of the country will be rainy and wet on Sunday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The coastal areas in northern and northeastern of Taiwan will see extreme heavy rain during the day, while mountainous areas in the greater Taipei area will experience sporadic heavy rain, CWB forecaster Liu Yu-chi (劉宇其) said.
This wave of cold air will be at its strongest on Sunday as the mercury dropped to 15.9 degrees Celsius in New Taipei’s Danshui district and Taoyuan’s Xinwu district in the early hours – the lowest ever recorded in Taiwan since autumn.
On the outlying islands, the lowest temperatures of 12.7 degrees Sunday morning was detected on Matsu Island, while temperatures dropped to 15 degrees on Kinmen Island.
For the rest of the day, the temperatures will range between 15-19 degrees Celsius in northern and northeastern Taiwan, 17-22 degrees in central Taiwan, 20-25 degrees in the south, and 18-22 degrees in eastern Hualien and Taitung counties, CWB data showed.
