NEW YORK (AP) — Bulgarian soprano Sonya Yoncheva is doing something no artist has done before at the Metropolitan Opera — performing three leading roles in HD broadcasts in the same season.
On Saturday, she will complete that feat by singing the title role of Verdi’s “Luisa Miller,” broadcast to movie theaters worldwide as part of the Met’s “Live in HD” series.
Earlier she sang the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” and also Mimi in the same composer’s “La Boheme.”
Yoncheva says she doesn’t want to dwell on her record too much “because then I start to stress and think it’s too much.” But she’s happy with how things have gone, saying it’s been “all good.”
