President Donald Trump says a briefing he received on anti-drug trafficking efforts provided a “great education.”
Trump traveled to Key West, Florida, on Thursday for an update from the Joint Interagency Task Force South. The agency is responsible for keeping tabs on drug trafficking by sea, air and online.
Trump says “drugs are flowing into our country” through the Pacific and the Caribbean. He also made another pitch for a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border to help stop drug smuggling.
The president has made cracking down on the illegal drug trade a priority for his administration.
Trump is staying in Florida through the weekend after hosting Japan’s prime minister at Trump’s estate in Palm Beach earlier in the week.

Hundreds of people gathered along the motorcade route, waving colorful signs applauding and insulting the president, and cheering or booing as he passed.
Some signs fit for a family audience said, “You’re fired” and “Thanks for saving our country.” There was also, “Slimeball go home.”
Trump traveled from Palm Beach on Thursday to be briefed by the Joint Interagency Task Force South, the agency charged with detecting and monitoring drug trafficking by sea, air and online.
The task force says that last year it helped disrupt a record 283 metric tons of cocaine and detained nearly 900 suspected members of drug trafficking organizations.
President Donald Trump is on his way to Key West, Florida, where he’ll get a briefing on drug interdiction.
Trump will be visiting Joint Interagency Task Force-South and will be briefed by Joint Interagency Task Force-South, Northcom, and Southcom.
He’ll be joined by his homeland security secretary, the acting director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy and other top aides.
Trump has made it a top priority to crack down on the import of illegal drugs. He argues that a wall is needed along the southern border to stop drugs-smuggling from Mexico.
But he’s spoken less about drugs that come through the country’s ports and through the mail.
Trump has spent the week in Palm Beach, Florida.
