Taipei, April 23 (CNA) The average salary of Taiwanese office workers at international companies in Taiwan is NT$57,729 (US$1,992) per month, about NT$19,000 more than at domestic firms, according to a survey released Monday by the online 1111 job bank.
The poll found that local white-collar workers seeking jobs in foreign companies are drawn mainly by higher pay, more generous benefits than those mandated in the Labor Standards Act, opportunities to broaden their global perspective, and chances of obtaining overseas training and working abroad.
It also found that office workers earn an average monthly salary of NT$57,729 in multinational companies in Taiwan, compared with NT$38,095 in domestic companies.
Meanwhile, 98 percent of office workers in Taiwan would try to obtain a job in an international company if foreign language proficiency was not required and they would expect a monthly salary of NT$57,064 on average, according to the poll.
Only 2.25 percent of office workers would not consider a job in an international company even if there was no foreign language requirement, the poll showed.
The main deterrents for the 2.25 percent are different work hours in line with the company base’s time zone, fear of being laid off, worry about the company going out of business in Taiwan, and the prevalent overtime work culture, according to the poll.
Generally, women are more willing than men to work at international companies, the survey showed.
The online poll, which was conducted April 11-20 via e-mail, collected 1,067 valid samples from members of the online job bank. It had a confidence level of 95 percent and a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
