Taipei, May 14 (CNA) The mercury rose to 35.2 degrees Celsius in Taipei early Monday afternoon, the highest in Taiwan’s capital this year, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

The new 2018 high was set at 1:03 p.m. on a day expected to be hot and windless all over the island, the bureau said.

The weather in Taiwan will be even hotter starting Tuesday as the island comes under the influence of southwesterly winds, the bureau forecast.

According to CWB data, the hottest temperature in Taiwan this year was 37.4 degrees, recorded in Dawu Township in Taitung County on May 8.
