Taipei, May 29 (CNA) The jackpot for Taiwan’s Grand Lottery is expected to hit NT$800 million (US$26.71 million) on Tuesday after 23 draws without a winner, according to Taiwan Lottery Corp. (TLC).

If one person wins the grand prize in the upcoming draw on Tuesday, it would be the Grand Lottery’s second highest payout to a single winner since it was launched in 2004, TLC said.

The biggest Grand Lottery jackpot ever won by a single winner was NT$937 million on June 9, 2009, followed by a NT$726 million payout on Feb. 23, 2007, according to TLC.

The Grand Lottery jackpot has exceeded NT$1 billion four times in history, but in those cases, more than one winner split the pot every time.

The highest Grand Lottery prize of NT$1.822 billion came on Feb. 8, 2011, and was shared by five winners, TLC said.

To win, lottery ticket holders have to pick the correct six numbers drawn from a total of 49 numbers. TLC holds two draws every week, one on Tuesday, the other on Friday.

According to data compiled by TLC, which is owned by CTBC Bank, there have been 109 winners of the Grand Lottery jackpot since 2014, when CTBC Bank was awarded the rights to operate the local lottery system by the Ministry of Finance.

Taiwan also has a Power Lottery, in which ticket holders must pick the correct six numbers drawn from 38 numbers and then one of eight in a second round. Draws are held every Monday and Thursday.

The biggest jackpot in the Power Lottery’s history was NT$3.03 billion, awarded to a single winner on April 23, 2015.
