31 Taiwanese universities among Asia’s best 250

London, June 27 (CNA) Thirty-one Taiwanese universities have been named in the 2018 best universities in Asia rankings issued by the London-based Times Higher Education Wednesday.

Among the 31 — five more compared with 2017 — National Taiwan University was placed 37th (down by four notches), the highest among all the Taiwanese universities named on the list, with seven others ranked among the top 100, according to the Asia University Rankings 2018 that include over 250 higher education institutions in 38 countries in the region covering East Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia and New Zealand.

The seven other universities from Taiwan on the list are National Tsing Hua University at 50th, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology at 56th, National Chiao Tung University at 67th, National Cheng Kung University at 77th, China Medical University at 88th, National Taiwan Normal University at 91st and Taipei Medical University at 98th.

Japan is the most represented nation, with 89 universities featured and University of Tokyo performing the best at 12th position.

China is in second place with 63 universities. Other countries with a strong presence in the rankings are Australia (35 universities), Taiwan (31), South Korea (27) and Thailand (10).

The top 10 highest-ranked universities in the region are National University of Singapore, Tsinghua University (China), Peking University (China), University of Melbourne (Australia), University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Nanyang Technological University (Singapore), Australian National University, University of Queensland and Chinese University of Hong Kong.
