Taipei, July 14 (CNA)－A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck eastern Taiwan at 2:32 a.m. Saturday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
No damage or casualties were immediately reported.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located about 24.8 kilometers north of Taitung County Hall at a depth of 8.1 km, the bureau’s Seismology Center said.
The earthquake’s intensity, which gauges the actual effect of a temblor, was highest in Taitung’s Chishang Township, where it measured 4 on Taiwan’s 7-level intensity scale.
The earthquake was also felt in downtown Taitung, where it registered an intensity of 3; Kaohsiung and Chiayi, recorded 2; Hualien, Pingtung, Tainan, Yunlin Nantou and Changhua, registered 1.
