Taipei, July 17 (CNA)－Western Taiwan will see sunny skies Tuesday while rain is forecast for the east as it comes under the influence of a tropical depression system, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
CWB forecaster Kuan Hsin-ping (官欣平) said stable weather is expected in western Taiwan, with daytime temperatures likely to top 36 degrees Celsius in Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli and Chiayi on Tuesday.
For southeastern and eastern Taiwan, the periphery of a tropical depression heading through the Bashi Channel northeast of the Philippines on Tuesday was expected to bring sporadic showers and even heavier rainfall to the region, Kuan said.
He said the weather system started to affect Taiwan on Monday, and its impact will fade later Tuesday as it moves away from the island.
Due to the rainfall, the weather in eastern Taiwan will be cooler than in the west with temperatures to range between 32 and 33 degrees, the CWB said.
Through stable weather is forecast in western Taiwan, people should beware of possible thundershowers in mountainous areas, especially in the afternoon.
Kuan said another tropic depression also located in waters off the Philippines is likely to develop into a tropical storm over the next few days, and the CWB will monitor it to see if it will affect Taiwan.
