Taipei, Aug. 15 (CNA)－Taiwanese athletes who will compete in the Asian Games left for Indonesia on Wednesday morning, with expectations of gold medal performances in several sports.
The Taiwanese athletes will participate in a wide range of sports, including tennis, weightlifting, taekwondo, badminton, gymnastics, swimming, female volleyball, cycling, female softball and wrestling, according to the Sports Administration of the Ministry of Education.
Taiwan is seen as having the potential to win Asian Games gold medals in tennis, badminton, weightlifting, taekwondo, and swimming.
At the airport, the athletes shouted “Chinese Taipei, Go, Go, Go”, to boost morale, and other travelers on the scene gave their blessings to the delegation.
Olympic weightlifter Kuo Hsing-chun (郭婞淳) will carry Taiwan’s flag during the opening ceremony of this year’s games, the first time a female athlete will carry the flag for Taiwan since the 1998 games in Bangkok when it was carried by taekwondo star Chen Yi-an (陳怡安).
