Xi Ning public housing’s first floor is a market place, from second floor to the fourth floor is government entities and business locations, and from the fifth floor above to the sixteenth floor is the public housing, in which live 480 households.

The first incident happened 20 years ago, it is said that a veteran went home very late at night, he forgot to bring his keys so he buzzed to ask for response but no one answered, then he tried to climb the outer wall but slipped and fell and died accidentally.

Even since then, incidents like people jumping off accidentally or suicidally, charcoal-burning suicide, sudden cardiac death just start to happen like crazy. The place seems to be doomed, over 30 lives were cost in the past 20 years.

According to a vendor in the Xining market (西寧市場), the cause behind all the weird things and tales of terror might be the name of the address. It is No.4, Xining S. Rd. (西寧南路四號), with two homophones with the word“death” (死) in Chinese context.

There was one time, a district police officer was on patrol, he saw a woman trying to commit suicide by jumping off from the top of the housing.

He rescued her with the janitor and asked her why she tried to do that.

She said, “I was just accompanying my boyfriend to shop for snickers. All of a sudden, while my boyfriend was trying on the shoes, I was sort of attracted and dragged by this invisible energy, going up to the roof by elevator unconsciously. When I fell out of the trance on top of the building and looked down, I saw a lot of people or, souls, waving at me vigorously and looking like couldn’t wait for me to go down.” This scared the officer and left him completely speechless.

Aside from jumping incidents, a 70-year-old lady was found dead naked in the elevator shaft.

The investigator thought her clothes were ripped by the facility, yet, they didn’t even find any shreds or rags at the crime scene; also, the rooms inside the building were said to be cold like a freezer even when without the air conditioner on.

Tenants wear long sleeves and sleep under a quilt wake up in the middle of the night owing to the odd coldness; there were even people who woke up in completely reversed position with handprint bruise on the leg.

There had been many problems with the elevator in Xining Public Housing, including accidents and deaths.
