Taiwan Today: Flights between Taiwan, Okinawa canceled due to Typhoon Kong-Rey

Due to Typhoon Kong-Rey, the budget carrier Tigerair said its round-trip flights IT230/231 between Taipei and Okinawa and IT288/IT289 between Kaohsiung and Okinawa on Thursday have been canceled.

Flights between Taiwan, Okinawa canceled due to Typhoon Kong-Rey

Several Taiwan-based airlines have canceled or postponed their flights to and from Japan’s Okinawa over the next two days due to the approach of Typhoon Kong-Rey.

China Airlines (CAL), Taiwan’s largest carrier, announced Wednesday on its website that its round-trip flights CI120/121 and 122/123 between Taipei and Okinawa on Thursday will be canceled. In addition, CAL said, its round-trip flights CI132/133 between Kaohsiung and Okinawa and AE282/283 between Taichung and Okinawa on Thursday will also be canceled.

EVA Air, one of Taiwan’s leading airlines, said all its flights scheduled for Thursday between Taipei and Okinawa will be canceled, while it will operate its bigger 777-300ER aircraft instead of the A321-200s on its round-trip flights BR112/BR113 and BR186/BR185 on Friday.

National Palace Museum to hold exhibit in Tokyo during Olympics

The Taipei-based National Palace Museum (NPM) will showcase items from its collection in Tokyo during the 2020 Olympic Games, NPM Deputy Director Lee Ching-hwi (李靜慧) said.

The museum plans to hold an exhibition at the Bunkamura, a cultural complex with concert hall, theater and museum facilities in Shibuya, Tokyo, Lee said at a hearing of the Legislature’s Education and Culture Committee.

“Traffic to the Bunkamura, located in Shibuya, is convenient,” Lee told lawmakers, who were concerned about the lending of national treasures for an overseas exhibition. “The location is very good,” she stressed.

Indonesian passenger dies on EVA Air flight

An Indonesian passenger died on an EVA Air flight from Taipei to Jakarta Wednesday, Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital has confirmed. The plane was forced to land in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, because of an medical emergency and a male passenger was rushed to hospital.

The 53-year-old passenger showed no vital signs on arriving at the hospital and was pronounced dead after family members agreed “not to resuscitate.” The man, who had diabetes and high blood pressure, could have died from heart failure or a pulmonary edema, the hospital said.
