Taipei, Nov. 15－An Huang (黃安), a China-based Taiwanese comedian, is showing his support for candidate Han Kuo-yu (韓國瑜) during Kaohsiung mayoral election. He posted on Wei-bo, saying “If Han Kuo-yu were elected as the Kaohsiung mayor, I would cut my long hair which I’ve kept it for over ten years and stream it!”
Huang An is known as an Anti-DPP. He stated that he made this promise out of the hate of DPP, hoping it could “overthrow the rule of DPP.”
The main candidate for Kaohsiung mayoral election Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) saw Huang’s post and responded: “I hate him, and I will not avoid saying it.” Chen mentioned that he hates Huang because Huang did harm the value of Taiwan in the past.
What did An Huang do? In 2016, Huang sent out posts on Weibo accusing Chou Tzu-yu, a teenage Taiwanese pop star, of advocating for Taiwan’s independence just because she carried a Taiwan flag during a live performance. Huang announced he “reported” her to authorities on Weibo. Chinese news outlets published pieces on Huang’s posts, leading many commenters attacking Chou’s group “Twice.” As a result, Chou appeared in a YouTube video tearfully apologizing for her actions. “There is only one China,” she said.
Such actions earned Huang criticism, making him the most hated man in Taiwan. However, he seems not to care at all. Now he stands out supporting Han Kuo-yu. Many netizens commented as “it is none of your business” while others are worried that Huang’s action would be harmful to Han since nobody in Taiwan like Huang at all.
