TAIPEI (The China Post) – The Cabinet released a draft bill on same sex marriage on Feb. 21 through which President Tsai Ing-wen wants to address the many challenges raised across Taiwan over the last two years.
Following the Constitutional Court ruling issued May 24, 2017 and the results the Nov. 24, 2018 referendum, the president like most people, believes, that the time is ripe for addressing this question.
Tsai also pointed out people across ages, religion and social backgrounds have expressed their views on this important matter.
During such discussions, a consensus regarding people’s rights and interests has emerged, she said.
She, therefore, argue that the question of same-sex marriage should be addressed from a legal perspective, meaning providing necessary assurance and protection (to the involved parties).
“I believe that the Cabinet (Executive Yuan) will make the most suitable and wise decision based on the Constitutional Court ruling and the referendum,” the president said.
