TAIPEI (The China Post) – According to the latest poll on the Kuomintang’s (KMT) hopefuls for the 2020 Presidential Election, Kaohsiung Mayor Han Kuo-yu is the most popular candidate, with a support rate of 29 percent.
New Taipei City Mayor Eric Chu is second with a support rate of 15.7 percent. Still, Han believes that Chu is an outstanding leader with great potential.
The latest poll which saw Han coming first among four other candidates was published by the chairman of “My-Formosa” e-letter, Wu Tzu Chia.
The wide gap between the support rate of Han and Chu is one of the highlights of the poll. Also, the results indicate that the support rate of former legislative speaker Wang Jin-pyng is 11.1 percent, while former president Ma Ying-jeou and KMT Chairman Wu Den-yih enjoy support rates of 5.6 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively.
Asked about the results of the poll, Han said that he’s grateful to the people who have supported him, but for now he only wants to fulfill his “mayoral duties” in Kaohsiung.
Local media further inquired whether Han is supportive of Chu. “I support all the candidates who are acknowledged by the party and want to run for the 2020 Presidential Election,” said Han.
Wu Tzu Chia added that the “anti-DPP effect” within the society is still ongoing, with the support rate of KMT is slightly higher than that of DPP by a 10-percentage point.
