Taiwanese Chou Tien-chen gets revenge at German Open

TAIPEI (CNA) – Taiwanese badminton ace Chou Tien-chen (周天成) defeated Malaysian Lee Zii Jia (李梓嘉) 21-18, 22-20 Saturday to advance to the men’s singles semi-finals at the YONEX German Open 2019.

The quarter-final match was Chou’s chance of revenge after he lost to Lee in the first round of the men’s singles at the Indonesia Masters 2019 and crashed out of the tournament.

On Saturday, in an intense match that lasted 49 minutes, Chou overcame a six-point deficit to claim the first set and won the second by making a comeback after Lee set up the game point.

Chou, ranked third in the world, will next play Kenta Nishimoto of Japan in the semi-finals. They have faced each other three times before, with Chou prevailing each time.
