Chinese Professional Baseball League signs player agreement with MLB

TAIPEI (The China Post) – Wu Chih-yang, president of Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), signed a player agreement with Jim Small, senior vice president of MLB on March 8.

Thanks to the agreement, CPBL players will soon be able to obtain overseas free agent eligibility and play in the U.S., pending authorization of their team.

“If MLB is interested in CPLB players, the chosen player will need to go through the status check process with the two leagues, scheduled on Nov. 1 each year,” Wu said.

Accordingly, U.S. professional team will pay for the posting fee according to a certain ratio, before the player gets to decide where to stay, or not.

“From Chien-Ming Wang to the Dodgers playing in Taiwan, Taiwan fans have always given us a lot of support. This agreement is necessary and beneficial for both CPLB and MLB,” Jam Small said.

Jim Small
