KAOHSIUNG (CNA) – A man has been arrested in connection with a smuggled shipment of illicit drugs worth NT$2 billion recently seized in Kaohsiung, police said Friday.

The case began late last year when authorities received information that a local drug ring planned to bring a large shipment of drugs into the country from Vietnam.

An investigation led police and customs officials to search a container at a pier in Kaohsiung from which they seized roughly one ton of drugs in January.

The narcotics, which contained amphetamines and ketamine, had a street value of NT$2 billion (US$64.76 million), police said.

The prime suspect identified only by his last name Lin (林) was arrested in Taichung on Thursday.

Police on Friday said the investigation is still ongoing as they try to track down other suspects involved in the case.
