TAIPEI (The China Post) – Following the drug dealing and sexual bribery charges pressed against Korean mega-group BIG BANG member Seungri (勝利), the fallout of another around K-pop star, Jung Joon-young (鄭俊英), has caused a backlash among fans, who used to address their beloved idols in honorific titles such as “oppa,” meaning a respectful brother.
Responding to the various scandals which are distressing to most, New York-based Chinese blogger Jinmurmur (廣告小妹) voiced her concerns in a recent Facebook post, saying that “oppas in the real life are actually quite scary.”
鄭俊英偷拍事件讓 FTISLAND 崔鍾訓、 Highlight 龍俊亨和 CNBLUE 李宗泫等 KPOP 界人氣偶像遭到調查，不少粉絲對偶像的行為既震驚又失望。
The accusations against Korean singer-songwriter Jung of filming sexually explicit videos of women without their knowledge has destabilized several high-profile stars, including Choi Jong-hoon (崔鍾訓) from F.T. Island, Yong Jun-hyung (龍俊亨) from boy band Highlight, and Lee Jong-hyun (李宗泫) from CNBLUE.
廣告小妹 15 日在臉書發文談論此事件，表示過去服務韓裔客戶的經驗，讓自己非「歐巴」不愛的愛情理想蕩然無存。
Jinmurmur on March 15 said on Facebook that she used to hold Korean males as her ideal other half, given her favorable experience engaging in business with Korean clients, but the late scandals have completed shattered her past conviction.
“The ‘Oppas’ in real life are actually quite scary,” she remarked.
Stressing that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions on the Korean entertainment industry in general, the blogger said there are still many caring males who pay great respect to females in South Korea. Still, she was not too surprised when the content of the sexual group chat was exposed, and she believes that the widespread thought pattern that males are superior to females needs to be fixed.
“These people became arrogant when they rose to fame at their early ages without proper gender-equality education,” the blogger said, adding that the K-pop stars involved in the scandals will need to face the consequences of their actions despite the exceptional experiences they have lived through.
廣告小妹更透露，自己曾是 BIGBANG 的迷妹，甚至窮到借錢都要去看他們在紐約的演唱會。
In addition, Jinmurmur added that she borrowed money once in hopes of watching one of their concerts in New York as she is a big fan so the incidents have become saddening to her.
However, the blogger deplores the K-pop stars for their misdeeds, quoting lyrics from a Chinese song that goes “you have more talents than your conscience.” She expressed hopes that young celebrities will be more down-to-earth and face their weak personalities in the near future.
